Box Score 2 BOSTON, Mass. – Jackson Wiley lit up the boards for 18 kills on the day while Connor Burton posted seven blocks as the Emerson Men's Volleyball Team split a tri-match against Lasell and Wentworth. The Lions topped Lasell 25-17, 25-21 and 25-22 before falling 26-24, 25-19 and 25-16 to Wentworth. Emerson is now 10-14 on the year and 4-7 in the GNAC.
Match one saw the Lions face off against the Lasers for the second time this season, looking to avenge their earlier loss to LC. Set one saw the Lions blocking step up to make the difference as the team posted four blocks while Jared Gross towed the line with five digs to take a 25-17 win.
Set two saw Emerson's offense start to roll as Nadav Swarttz stepped up to floor four for the Lions to give them the edge. LC didn't go easy though as they forced four tie scores before the Lions took off with the 25-21 win. Three was all Emerson needed though as Eric Doherty jumped into the fray to hit .571 for five kills in the set while EC put up another two blocks to shut down the Lasers 25-22.
Match two of the day for the Lions pitted EC against the Wentworth Leopards. WIT wasted no time as they stepped out to floor a .444 team average for 21 kills in the first set alone. Jackson Wiley was the highlight for the Lions as he put up five kills of his own to help Emerson battle to 10 tie scores and four lead changes, but in the end WIT was too much as they took the 26-24 win in extras.
Set two was all Wentworth's defense doing the work as they put up 4.5 blocks on the Lions in the set to stifle EC's offensive attack. Ben Hillman dropped three kills for a perfect 1.000 swing percentage, but couldn't hold off the attacking Leopards in the 25-19 loss. Set three was all WIT again though as Emerson just couldn't seem to find a rhythm while the Leopards hit .423. Another five blocks from Wentworth was enough to seal the deal as well for a 25-16 win.
Emerson returns to their home court on Thursday as they set to continue GNAC action facing JWU at 7 p.m. in Boston at Emerson's Brown-Plofker Gym.
