Box Score 2 BOSTON, Mass. – Juniors Lauren Jacaruso and Bianca Buono hit .500 on the day as the Emerson Softball Team fell in a tough pair of 10-1 (5) and 12-4 (6) losses to the Brandeis Judges Friday. On the year the Lions are now 9-9 while Brandeis moves to 9-8 overall.
Game one saw the Judges jump out to a quick 4-0 lead on the Lions after putting up six hits in the first inning alone for four runs. BU added another two in the second before securing an even larger lead in the third with three more to make it 9-0 after two and a half.
The Lions pawed back in the third with a single from Lauren Jacaruso getting things started with a single to right and was brought around after a walk and an error by the Brandeis center fielder to make it 9-1. The Judges only needed five innings though as solid defense kept EC off the board en route to Brandeis closing out the 10-1 win.
Game two saw Lauren Jacaruso take to the circle for the Lions and throw three shutout innings against the Judges. BU broke the stalemate first though as Casey Ducinski lifted a 1-2 pitch to center field for a solo shot before Anya Kamber's RBI single to the pitcher made it 2-0.
Emerson came back strong in the bottom of the inning though as Nikki Delaney dug in on the first pitch she saw with the bases loaded and sent a shot to left center to make it 4-2 in Emerson's favor.
The glow of the grand slam was short-lived though as Brandeis fought back in the fifth inning as they added five runs off three hits and an error to jump out to a 7-4 lead. The Lion offense couldn't seem to get back going though as they were shut out for the remainder of the game that BU cut short in the sixth with another five runs, this time with two Emerson errors to end it with a 12-4 final.
The Lions will return to GNAC action tomorrow as they set to face the Mount Ida Mustangs. Game one is set to start at noon in Boston at Rotch Field.
