EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A defensive battle fell the way of the Lions Saturday afternoon as the Emerson Softball Team swept JWU 4-3 and 3-0 in GNAC doubleheader action. With the win the Lions improve to 5-7 overall and 2-0 in conference play as JWU falls to 2-10 on the year and 0-4 in GNAC play.

Game one saw Lauren Jacaruso take to the circle only to see JWU strike first on the day as the error bug bit the Lions with two unearned runs coming across in the second inning. JWU capitalized on another tough inning in the third as an error and a passed ball brought another one home to make it 3-0 after three.

It looked grim for the Lions through the rest of the game as the offense couldn't seem to pick it up until the bottom of the seventh inning when Bianca Buono dug in to open up the inning with a single.

A triple from the Alexandra Wysota made it 3-1 before an RBI single from Tatiana Motevalli-Oliner cut it to 3-2. A single and an error brought home the tying run in the game before an errant wild pitch gave EC the walk-off win with a 4-3 final.

Game two saw the defense step it up as they shutout the Wildcat offense through seven complete with Alicia Daniele put up the complete game shutout with three Ks in the outing.

The EC offense jumped onto the board in the second inning with some two-out lightning as a single from Alicia Daniele was brought home off Alexandra Wysota's third home run of the day to make it 2-0. A single from Amanda Horton in the fifth made it 3-0 as Horton showcased her speed stealing second, third and home to close it out.

The Liosn return to action Sunday as they set to host Albertus Magnus in a doubleheader. First pitch of game on is set for noon in Boston at Rotch Field.
