Box Score 2 CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A tough day befell the Emerson Men's Volleyball Team Saturday afternoon as they fell to MIT and Endicott, both in 3-0 sets. With the losses the Lions are now 7-3 on the year with one more match to go in the weekend.
Match one on the day paired up the Lions against the host Engineers from MIT where the Lions were just unable to get in sync. MIT came out as a force from the start with Matt Hohenberger putting up 10 kills in the match while Ken Siebert and Andrew Busse both put up six in support of him.
Alex Frapech and Connor Burton led the Lions in the match with four kills each as well as a solo block for Frapech and an assist for Burton. While the Lions matched the Engineers in blocks with four in the game, in the end MIT prevailed 25-12, 25-13 and 25-14.
Match two on the day put the Endicott Gulls on the floor against the Lions which saw the Gulls lock in early on offense, putting up a .571 team attack percentage in the first set alone. Jackson Wiley stepped up for the Lions in the match, flooring eight kills to tie the leader of the Gulls on the day, John Osbourne.
It was the Endicott defense that tripped up the Lions though as they posted seven blocks in the set to tighten their lead on the Lions as they won the match 25-8, 25-17 and 25-19.
The Lions will return to one more day of action at the MIT Invitational with an 11 a.m. match against York (N.Y.) in Cambridge, Mass.
