With the loss the Lions are now 5-5 on the year and 0-2 in conference play as Emmanuel improves to 3-4 overall and 2-0 in the GNAC.
The Lions came out to light it up in the first set as they swung .294 as a team with Alex Frapech locking in to hit .800 in the set with four kills to lead the set. Brendan McGonigle stepped up as well for EC, swinging .400 for three kills in the set as the Lions went head-to-head with the Saints. While Emmanuel battled back forcing 12 tie scores and six lead changes in the end it was Emerson that prevailed.
Set two saw the Saints lock in though as they rallied back from the first set loss to throw down .345 as a team as Ashanti Jackson lit things up with a perfect five-for-five performance to lead Emmanuel. The Lions couldn't seem to find the same rhythm that they did in the first set with 10 unforced errors as the Saints ripped off with a 25-20 win to even it.
Set three proved to be a gritty battle on both sides as the score found itself tied on more than six occasions throughout. Alex Frapech exploded in the set, leading the floor with an unreal nine kills in the set. The Saints pieced it together as a team though, even as Emerson outhit them .346 to .333, taking a .25-22 win.
While the Lions fired up again in the fourth for seven tie scores and two lead changes, the Saints defense was too much for Emerson in the end as they post four blocks in the set. Frapech was fantastic again with four kills in the set, which was matched by Emmanuel's Wyatt Cooper with a .600 attack percentage as the Saints closed out the 25-21 final.
The Lions will travel to the MIT Invitational this week in Cambridge where they'll face MIT and Endicott on Saturday starting at 4 p.m.
