Tuthill Perfect As Softball Sweeps Lasell In Finale of Regular Season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BOSTON, Mass. – A perfect six-for-six performance at the plate from Bianca Buono while the Emerson Softball Team scored 12 runs on the day highlighted A Kelsey Tuthill perfect game and another series sweep Saturday afternoon in Boston as the Lions topped Lasell 9-0 (5) and 3-0. Tuthill and Alexandra Magistro moved to 15-2 and 14-3 on the year while the Lions improve to 30-7 overall and 24-2 in GNAC action.

Game one sent senior Kelsey Tuthill out to do work in the circle, which she did exactly that as she was straight dealing against the Lasers in the outing who couldn't seem to make any sense of what Tuthill was throwing them. Her fellow Lions took her lead as well posting three runs in the first inning as Shannon Torosian put a two RBI double up the middle that Alexandra Magistro matched with an RBI single through the left side for a quick 3-0 lead.

Another Torosian RBI in the third tacked another one on the board for EC before they added two more in the fourth with a two run shot by Nikki Delaney right before the Lions put it away in five innings as Alexandra Magistro dug in with two on in the fifth and demolished the first pitch she saw of the at-bat over the center field wall to finish the 9-0 win.

Game two was apparently what Magistro was itching to get to as she took the ball to start the game against the Lasers, only allowing two hits and a walk in her five innings. EC hit the ground running again in the game as Brittany Rochford led off the game getting hit by a pitch which Bianca Buono made the Lasers pay for with a RBI double to center off a full count to make it 1-0.

From there the Lasers held their own on defense but Magistro gave them a whole lot of nothing to work with on offense as the Lions battled LC's Cassie Wadden in the circle. Wadden fended off the feisty Lions until the fifth inning when EC drew blood again as Nikki Delaney opened up the inning with a double to right which Brittany Rochford followed up gaining first on a fielder's choice that Biana Buono decided to plate with another two RBI hit with a single to right center.

The three runs was all the Lions could muster in the outing, but that proved more than enough as Magistro ripped through five innings before Kelsey Tuhill came in for the save to finish off the sweep.

The wins close out the Lions regular season where they clinch the number one seed in the GNAC Tournament starting next Friday at Gordon College.
