Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – Some crafty serving from Frank O'Sullivan with four aces on the night combined with 13 kills from Connor Burton and 12 from Nadav Swarttz with a defense that collected 9.5 blocks, the Emerson Men's Volleyball Team came out full throttle to topple a solid Wentworth Leopards program 25-23, 26-24, 18-25 and 25-16 Thursday night. The win boosts EC to 8-11 on the year and 3-7 in the GNAC while WIT drops to 11-11 and 6-4 in the conference.
Set one saw the Lions come out ready to rock as they plastered a .242 attack percentage on the bewildered Leopards to rock Wentworth onto their heels. The Leopards seemed to recover to push EC to the brink with ten tie scores, but some huge timely blocks from Eric Doherty as well as Nadav Swartt's four kills was enough to lay the ground work in Emerson's 25-23 win to open it.
Round two saw the Leopards switch up their setters to try and pull the offense back on board and the ploy nearly worked as the Leopards surged to take an early lead, but the Lions weren't willing to walk away from this one as they found themselves fueled with Frank O'Sullivan's serve game which saw him take three aces in the set alone while teammates Connor Burton and nadav Swarttz did work on offense with four kills each to push it to an extra points victory 26-24 Lions.
In the third throwdown the Leopards composed themselves to put some offense together as Ross Burdett floored five while the Lions strength the last two matches in serving failed them as they collected three service errors. Eric Doherty managed to put down three, but the Leopards jumped back into the match with a 25-18 win.
In the fourth the Lions came out with full knowledge they weren't letting this one slip to five sets as they blazed a .333 team attack percentage in the set with Connor Burton exploding for five kills in a perfect 1.000 attack percentage while the defense sunk their teeth into the helpless Leopards as they put up three blocks in the set to shut down the Wentworth threat en route to a 25-16 final over the potent WIT squad.
The Lions will travel to Daniel Webster for their next match-up where they'll tip-off against the Eagles at 7 p.m. in Nashua, NH.
