Box Score NASHUA, N.H. – A full-on offensive assault by the Emerson Men's Soccer Team left behind GNAC foe, Rivier Monday afternoon as the Lions took a 2-0 win. With the W EC moves to 5-7 on the year and 3-4 in conference play as Rivier drops to 0-9-1 overall and 0-6-1 in the GNAC.
In the first half, the Lions took control of the ball and never looked back, putting up seven shots on the Raiders to put them on their heels. While the Lions remained dominant on offense, Matthew St. Peter for the Raiders put in the work, with three saves to keep EC at bay.
It was a matter of time though as the Lions finally struck in the 39th minute of play as freshman Matt Zani put his name in the books, setting up a pass to Lucas Parolin who put home the first goal of the game.
With the momentum, it took the Lions a mere two minutes later to strike again with Lucas Parolin this time putting up an assist to Alex Pappas who found a corner for his second goal of the season.
Coming out of the half up 2-0, the Lions found the Raiders to be much more of a physical presence as they put up five fouls and two yellow cards in an attempt to slow down EC. Emerson still pushed on offense though as the Lions put up 14 shots in the half to Rivier's zero.
In the half Rivier's Matthew St. Peter showed up again, this time with seven saves as the Raiders were able to close out the game with only two goals on their tab as Emerson took its fifth win on the year.
Up next, Emerson will return home as they set to host UMass Boston this Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Boston at Rotch Field.
