Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – A big game for Drew Venter with 13 points, four assists, four steals and a block wasn't enough to carry the load Saturday afternoon as the Emerson Men's Basketball Team dropped a 64-48 decision to an Emmanuel squad with four players in double digits. The loss puts EC at 1-15 overall and 1-8 in the conference as Emmanuel improves to 7-9 on the year and 6-3 in the GNAC.
The first half saw the Lions struggle mightily on offense, only hitting six of the 29 shots they took in the half with freshman Patrick Lowndes putting up a team-leading four points. In the meantime the Emmanuel offense shot the roof off the gym as they hit 54% of their shots with Connor Morgan hitting 12 points as well as seeing the Saints hit six threes to pull away with a huge 41-14 lead at the half.
The Lions came out vastly improved in the second half though as they kept the potent Saints offense at bay, nearly cutting their offense in half and doubling their own as they outscored Emmanuel 34-23. Drew Venter led the charge for Emerson with 11 points, going a perfect 5-5 on the floor and 1-1 from three point land.
His teammate, James Rhodes also came out to help the cause with seven points of his own, most of which came from the free throw line. While Emmanuel's Isaiah Duke put up a scrappy seven points in the half, the Saints were only saved by their huge first half as they closed out the 64-48 win.
The Lions will host the Norwich Cadets this Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Boston at the Brown-Plofker Gym on the campus of Emerson College.
