Women's Volleyball Caps Off Perfect GNAC Season In Style With Wins Over Mount Ida and Emmanuel

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BOSTON, Mass. – With rookie sensation, Kat Rice crushing 19 kills on the day and posting five blocks on the day, the Emerson Women's Volleyball Team completed a perfect conference season Saturday afternoon as they toppled Mount Ida 3-0 and host Emmanuel 3-1 to move to 22-7 on the year and a flawless 13-0 in GNAC play to secure the top seed and GNAC tournament hosting.

Against the Mustangs, the Lions didn't waste anytime taking it to the Mt. Ida immediately as they swung a .387 attack percentage in the first set to blast out a 25-14 win. Set two saw the Mustangs buck a bit in the set as they scrapped out a .130 attack percentage and a block to push EC a little more, but ultimately the Lions sunk their teeth in for a 25-19 win to go up 2-0.

Three is just how Emerson likes it though as they moved their record to 12-4 on the year in three set matches as EC pulled some impressive final statistics in the match with Alexa Krakowiak proving invaluable again swinging a lethal .583, which was only to be topped by Kat Rice's .625 in the match with ten kills as Emerson took the last set 25- to close out their 12th win in conference play.

In the final regular season GNAC match-up, Emerson took to the court again for a match-up against the host Emmanuel where the Saints came marching in to the first set to hit a .324 attack percentage while posting a couple blocks to throw the Lions off their game a bit as they battled back and forth for leverage in the set until the Saints finally stepped up to take it in extra points, 27-25.

While the Lions were down one and the Saints were still swinging away, set two looked to be just as tough as the first one with Emmanuel hitting a dirty .364 as a team. The offensive force of the Saints would have been enough to overpower the Lions if not for their tandem of Kat Rice and Alexa Krakowiak who built a brick wall in the middle to floor five blocks and let Emerson take set two 25-22.

Still nipping on their heels in set three, the Lions offense started to click into gear with Emerson hitting .243 as Madeleine Breeland's kill tally kept winding upward and Megan Kaplon putting in the work on offense as well to see Emerson blast to a 25-23 win in the third to snake ahead 2-1.

Set four Emerson was ready to show the Saints the door though as the defense slammed the door shut finishing the match with 10 blocks and 92 digs while Katie Bailey did work keeping Emmanuel on their toes with her 46 assists en route to a 25-17 final and perfect 13-0 GNAC season.

The Lions will now kick-off the GNAC tournament this week as they set to host quarterfinals this Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. in Boston at Brown-Plofker Gym where they'll face-off against Johnson and Wales who they topped 3-0 in September.
