Ben Read enters his 14th year at Emerson with success has followed nearly every step of his coaching career without exception in Boston. He has held several coaching jobs at high levels of achievement starting at the University of New Hampshire (back-to-back conference champions & NCAA Tournament appearances), Seacoast Juniors Volleyball Club (18’s New England Region Champions), Wheaton (18-win improvement in his second season), as well as additional stints at UConn, Johnson & Wales, and Bryant.
Thus far in his tenure at Emerson, Read has reached the championship match twice in the GNAC, once in the ECAC, and once in the NEWMAC. He made an NCAA Tournament appearance and led the Lions to their highest regional ranking in program history in 2022 (3rd) while ranking 5th last season.
Coaching the women's team, Read has compiled an 203-133 overall record (.604 win percentage). While coaching the men's team, Read has led the program to conference playoffs all but one season. Additionally, he has coached a conference tournament MVP, two All-Americans (Honorable Mention), four Defensive Players of the Year, four Rookies of the Year, nine first team, 11 second team, and nine third team all-conference players while at Emerson.
Read earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology: Exercise Science from University of New Hampshire in 2002. He resides in Mansfield, Massachusetts with his wife Kristen, children; James (7) & Maddie (4) and two dogs, Sierra and Nala.
