David Suvak enters his 16th season as Head Coach of the Emerson College Women’s Soccer Program and marks his 20th year with Emerson Athletics. Prior to leading the women’s team, Suvak served as Associate Head Coach of the Emerson Men’s Soccer Program, bringing a wealth of experience and leadership to the department.
With more than two decades of coaching experience at the collegiate, high school, Olympic Development Program (ODP), and premier club levels, Suvak has made a significant impact on the sport regionally and nationally. He previously served as President and Technical Director of New England Rush, a premier club in Massachusetts. In addition, he has been a longtime Girls' Head Coach for Massachusetts ODP and is an active staff member with East Region ODP. His role as Assistant Director of Coaching for Massachusetts Youth Soccer included overseeing ODP Academy sessions, leading state licensure courses, and advancing player and coach development throughout the state.
Since his appointment in 2010, Suvak has helped elevate the Emerson Women’s Soccer program to new heights. Under his guidance, the Lions have demonstrated excellence in competition, academics, and sportsmanship. A major breakthrough came in 2022, when Emerson captured its first-ever New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship and earned a historic berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament. Midfielder Cali Bruce ’23 was named Most Outstanding Player of the NEWMAC Tournament.
The team’s success continued in 2023, with six players receiving NEWMAC All-Conference honors, including First Team selections for Brittney Righetti (Forward), Yoshiko Slater (Midfield), Anna Swisher (Defense), and goalkeeper Amara Schaub. Emerson also made academic strides in 2024, as three players—Yoshiko Slater, Linae Bezdek, and Maddie Khaw—earned spots on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team, the program’s first such recognition since 2010. That same year, the team posted 11 NEWMAC Academic All-Conference honorees.
In recognition of the team’s commitment to integrity and fair play, the Lions received the United Soccer Coaches Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award in January 2025.
A native of Winchester, Massachusetts, Suvak was inducted into the Winchester Sports Foundation Hall of Fame in 2006. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Boston College in 1988, where he was a three-year starter and team captain for the men’s soccer program. He was named team MVP in 1986 and helped lead the Eagles to three Big East Championship tournament appearances. Suvak also holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the Boston Architectural College, a member of the ProArts Consortium.
Following college, Suvak played semi-professionally for six seasons in the Luso American Soccer Association (LASA) with the Lowell Lusitanos (Blues), serving as team captain for four years and winning multiple league, Cup, and Super Cup championships. He was twice named team MVP.
Suvak holds a USSF National A-Senior Coaching License and has earned both the Premier Diploma and Director of Coaching Diploma from the United Soccer Coaches (formerly NSCAA).
