Bill Gould took the reins of the Emerson College women's basketball program in October 2007. In 2008-2009, he led Emerson to its best record in program history (21-9). That season, the Lions made it to the GNAC championship game for the first time ever and also participated in a post-season tournament for the first time, which included a trip to the ECAC semi-final game. Gould won NEWMAC Coach of the Year for the 2018-2019 season and GNAC COY in 2008-2009. He is the winningest coach in Emerson WBB history.
During his tenure, Gould has coached 14 All-Conference selections, including 5 1st Team selections. He has also coached 2 Rookies of the Year and 2 Defensive Players of the Year. Most importantly, Gould’s teams have also excelled in the classroom having been ranked in the Top 10 nationally for highest overall team GPA in D3, including 2 years as the #1 team in the country.
Prior to coming to Emerson, Gould spent 8 seasons on the Boston College staff. Bill has also worked as an assistant at Stonehill College for 4 seasons and at Bentley University for 2.
During his 8 years at BC, the Eagles were 171-77, with six 20-win seasons, six NCAA appearances and two trips to the Sweet 16. While at Stonehill, the Chieftains registered a record of 107-20 with an appearance in the Division II Fab Four in 1994.
During the summer of 1999, Bill served on the staff that coached the Big East/Nike Women's Basketball All-Star Team on a five-game tour of Belgium and Germany. He has also coached the Emerson Lions in tournaments in California, St Thomas and Puerto Rico.
A 1991 graduate of Bridgewater State College, Bill earned a bachelor of arts degree in History. He also holds a master's degree in Administrative Studies from Boston College that he received in 2005.
Gould resides in Needham, MA with his wife Jen and their two sons, Jason and Jeremy.
