BOSTON, Mass. (September 22, 2026) – Emerson College completed a three-set sweep of Mount Holyoke College (25-19, 25-18, 25-21) in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's volleyball opener for both at Bobbi Brown and Steven Plofker Gymnasium tonight.
Emerson has matched its best start since opening the 2022 season 10-1 as well after sophomore Lizi Horning and senior Rachel Dickerson paced a balanced Lions attack with 11 kills apiece. Horning delivered her 11 kills with just two hitting errors for a .333 hitting percentage to go with four blocks (two solo), while Dickerson added eight digs and a solo block.
Junior Chloe Hokenson posted her fifth double-double of the season with 16 assists and ten digs with seven kills, two service aces and two blocks. Classmate Sophia Schiappa contributed 12 assists, three aces and six digs, while senior Lauren Yoo chipped in 19 digs, seven assists and two aces. Emerson served up double digit aces for the fourth-straight match and eighth time this season overall, with junior Sami Kim totaling a team-high four.
First year Eliza Vest led Mount Holyoke with a match-high 12 kills and nine digs. Classmate Melina Cudiamat dished out a match-high 26 assists with two aces and nine digs, while senior Kyra Staples totaled 13 digs and five aces.

Emerson grabbed the lead early in the opening set with four-straight points on Yoo's serve, including back-to-back kills from Horning who finished the set with three. Dickerson also added three kills for the Lions who finished the set with just three hitting errors.
Hokenson paced Emerson into the driver's seat in a second set that included six ties and four lead changes with three kills and two aces that closed out the set. Horning totaled four kills on just nine total attacks (.444).
Yoo again served Emerson into the lead in the third set with five-straight points early in the frame. The Lions held the Lyons at arm's length until consecutive aces by Staples knotted the set at 21-21. Emerson sealed the match with a Hokenson kill and back-to-back kills by Dickerson, who hit .364 in the set with five total kills and just one error on 11 hits.
Emerson (10-1, 1-0 NEWMAC) is back in action on Friday when it hosts Kean University for a non-conference matchup at Brown & Plofker Gym starting at 6 p.m. Mount Holyoke (4-3, 0-1 NEWMAC) visits Salve Regina University for a NEWMAC clash on Saturday at 1 p.m.
