BOSTON, Mass. (September 1, 2026) – Emerson College battled its way back from two sets down to secure a 3-2 (13-25, 22-25, 25-16, 26-24, 15-7) triumph over Wentworth Institute of Technology in a non-conference women's volleyball match at Smith Court on the campus of Suffolk University this afternoon.
Sophomore Lizi Horning powered the Emerson comeback win with a career-high 25 kills and a .333 hitting percentage with four digs, while junior Chloe Hokenson dished out a career-best 43 assists with three service aces, three kills and eight digs. First year Addie Wooten contributed 14 kills with just three errors for a .344 hitting percentage in her collegiate debut, while senior Rachel Dickerson rounded out the Lions with double figure kills with 12, adding four aces, 12 digs and two blocks. Senior Lauren Yoo chipped in with 23 digs.
Senior Emma Sanders paced Wentworth with 19 kills, hitting .370 with 19 digs and two aces. Classmate Olivia Vaughn dished out 48 assists with three service aces.
Emerson hit .324 as a team over the final three sets after hitting just .122 in dropping the first two sets of the match. Horning totaled seven kills and hit .462 as the Lions got back in the match with a set three win before tallying ten kills with a .381 hitting percentage as the Lions forced a deciding set by edging the Panthers 26-24 to stay alive.
Emerson (1-0, 0-0 NEWMAC) returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Nichols College and Simmons University for a tri-match at Bobbi Brown & Steven Plofker Gymnasium starting at 11 a.m. Wentworth (1-1, 0-0 CNE) visits Wellesley College on Friday at 6 p.m.
