BOSTON, Mass. (September 1, 2026) – Emerson College scored in each half on its way to securing a 2-0 season-opening victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology this afternoon.
Emerson netted a goal in each half on its way to securing its first season-opening win since a 3-0 victory over Regis College in 2020 with a 2-0 victory this afternoon with goals coming from first year Cade Lagerwey and senior back Daniel Bede. Bede also spearheaded the Lions defense to a shutout in their season-opener – their first since a 1-0 victory over Babson last October.
Sophomore Asa Roberts and first year Lasse Bartsh-Erforth split the goalkeeping duties in the shutout effort for Emerson. Roberts made one save in a scoreless first half, before Bartsh-Erforth made two stops in the second half. Junior Kieran Gorgenyi finished with ten saves in the Wentworth goal.
Lagerwey gave Emerson a quick lead by netting the opener just 55-seconds into his collegiate debut, deflecting his first collegiate goal off a Wentworth defender. The Lions doubled their lead 12:44 into the second half with Bede's second career goal.
Emerson (1-0-0, 0-0-0 NEWMAC) is right back in action on Thursday when it visits Eastern Connecticut State University at 4 p.m. The Lions home opener is scheduled for Saturday, September 12, when they host Widener University at Rotch Field at 1 p.m. Wentworth (0-1-0, 0-0-0 CNE) visits Colby-Sawyer College on Saturday at 1:45 p.m.
