NORTON, Mass. (September 19, 2026) – Wheaton College and Emerson College produced a three-goal flurry over a four-minute span with Wheaton's pair just 64-seconds apart enough to claim a 2-1 victory in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener for both at Christina Mirrione, '99 Stadium this afternoon.
Sophomore Karina Contreras had a hand in each of Wheaton's two goals that were separated by just 64-seconds in the opening ten minutes of the match with a goal and assist. She assisted on sophomore Camila Leiva's sixth goal of the season just 8:10 into the match and then added her third of the year a mere 64-seconds later that provided the Lyons with a two-goal lead just 9:14 into the contest.
Emerson got right back into the match two minutes later with sophomore Abby Cockerill netting her first goal of the season in the 12th minute off a pass from classmate Madisyn Grant that capped a wild three goal flurry in the opening 11:39 by the two teams.
The defenses settled in and neither team would score again in the final 78 minutes. Sophomore Olivia King preserved the win for Wheaton with four saves, while Emerson sophomore Hailey Forman kept the Lions within reach with a season-high nine stops.
Emerson (2-2-2, 0-1-0 NEWMAC) returns to action on Wednesday to host Bowdoin College at Rotch Field at 7 p.m. Wheaton (3-2-1, 1-0-0 NEWMAC) visits Worcester Polytechnic Institute on Monday at 6 p.m.
