Wheaton Defeats Women's Tennis

Ortiz and Hollis lead four double winners for Lyons

NORTON, Mass. (April 14, 2026) – Wheaton College swept doubles play and went on to secure a 6-1 decision over Emerson College in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis match at Clark Tennis Courts this afternoon.

Highlights

  • Senior Alissa Ortiz and junior Asia-Leigh Hollis led four double winners for Wheaton in the win, while juniors Laila Haraj-Sai and Taylor Wilson also collected both singles and doubles victories for the Lyons.
  • Junior Isabella Cottrell chipped in with a singles win for Wheaton.
  • First year Teah Login earned a point for Emerson with her straight sets win at No. 1 singles.

How It Happened

  • Wheaton swept the three doubles to match to post the first point of the match as Ortiz and senior Kara Greenlee combined to clinch the point with their 6-2 decision at No. 1 doubles.
  • Wilson did not drop a game over two sets in posting Wheaton's first singles point with her win at No. 5.
  • Hollis dropped just two first set points in singles play across her two wins in the afternoon, pulling the Lyons within a point of the match win with her 6-2, 6-0 decision over Emerson sophomore Alisa Pimenova at No. 4 singles after she and Haraj-Sai teamed up to win 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.
  • Ortiz provided the match deciding point with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles against sophomore Abigail Miner.
  • Haraj-Sai and Cottrell both rallied from a set down at No. 2 and No. 6, respectively, to win in a third set super tiebreaker to close out the match after Login's 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles against Greenlee.

Emerson (4-10, 0-6 NEWMAC) is back on the courts on Saturday when it hosts Clark University for a NEWMAC match at Regis College Tennis Courts in Weston at 2:30 p.m. Wheaton (8-7, 3-3 NEWMAC) visits Endicott College on Saturday at noon.
