#30 MIT Battles Past Men's Tennis

Liao and Li lead double winners in Engineers third-straight win

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (March 20, 2026) – Massachusetts Institute of Technology, ranked No. 30 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division III national rankings, posted a 6-1 victory over Emerson College in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's tennis match inside the J.B. Carr Tennis Bubble this afternoon.

Highlights

  • First years Hunter Liao and Tyler Li along with junior Cole Armstrong were all double winners to lead MIT to its third-straight win.
  • Postgrad Henry Feldman and senior Ethan Nguyen posted singles wins for the Engineers.
  • First year Adam Alireza was a double winner for Emerson as the Lions won their first singles and doubles matches over MIT in the series history.

How It Happened

  • MIT won two of three doubles matches to clinch the first point of the match as Liao and Li clinched the point with their 6-3 decision at No. 1 doubles.
  • Feldman, Nguyen and Armstrong all won in straight sets at No. 4, 5, and 6 singles, respectively to clinch the match for MIT.
  • Alireza combined with first year Caiden Riebold for a 7-5 victory at No. 3 doubles and then Alireza finished off his double win match with a 7-5, 6-2 triumph at No. 3 singles over MIT senior Jeremy Yu to earn the Lions point.

Emerson (5-6, 0-1 NEWMAC) is back in action on Sunday when it visits Wentworth Institute of Technology for a non-conference match. MIT (4-2, 2-0 NEWMAC) visits UC Santa Cruz on Monday at 2 p.m.
