Abarca leads four double winners for Hawks

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (March 11, 2026) – Roger Williams University closed out its spring break trip with a 6-1 victory over Emerson College in a non-conference women's tennis match at the United States Tennis Association (USTA)/National Training Center this evening.

Highlights

  • Sophomore Valentina Abarca led a group of four double winners for Roger Williams with victories at No. 1 singles and doubles.
  • Senior Izzy Pecora, junior Ella Mancini and freshman Megan Bache also all collected singles and doubles wins for the Hawks.
  • Junior Adriana Palmieri also posted a singles win for Roger Williams.
  • Senior Jayden Beverly earned Emerson's point in the match with her win at No. 6 singles.

How It Happened

  • Roger Williams swept the three doubles matches to post the first point in the dual with Pecora and Mancini teaming up for a 6-2 win at No. 2 for the point clinching win.
  • Bache posted the Hawks first singles point with her 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles over Emerson sophomore Alisa Pimenova.
  • Palmieri drew Roger Williams within a point of the match win with her 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles against first year Anna Matsuura.
  • Mancini then clinched the match win at No. 3 singles, defeating sophomore Abigail Miner 6-3, 6-2.
  • Abarca and Emerson first year Teah Login battled into a third set super tiebreaker with Abarca clinching her second win of the day with a 6-2, 5-7, 10-6 decision.
  • Beverly won the Lions lone point of the match at No. 6 singles, rallying from a set down for a 1-6, 6-4, 10-7 triumph over senior Gabrielle Petroniro.

Emerson (4-3, 0-1 NEWMAC) is right back in action tomorrow when it wraps up its spring break trip against Transylvania University at the USTA National Campus at 11:30 a.m. Roger Williams improves to 15-5 overall, including 8-2 in the Conference of New England.
