DAVENPORT, Fla. (March 10, 2026) – Saint Joseph's College of Maine improved to 8-0 on the season by winning a pair of games against Emerson College in a non-conference baseball doubleheader at Lake Myrtle Field today.
Game 1: Saint Joseph's 10, Emerson 3
First year lefthander Tyler Nelson struck out 11 batters in six strong innings to earn his first collegiate win on the mound and sophomore batterymate Nic Frick batted 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored to pace Saint Joseph's in game one. Nelson (1-0) scattered three earned runs and six hits over 6.0 innings with just two walks to go with the 11 strikeouts.

First year Jack McCoy belted his first collegiate home run in hitting 1-for-3 for Emerson. Junior Braeden O'Connell was also 1-for-3 for the Lions with a double and RBI, while classmate Justin Fields also doubled and scored a run. Sophomore righthander Henry Kagan yielded four earned runs on four hits with three strikeouts and five walks in three innings on the Emerson mound.
Doubles from Fields and O'Connell put Emerson on the board in the top of the first, but the teams traded singled runs over the first two innings, with McCoy leading off the second a home run to left to put the Lions back in front.
Saint Joseph's took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the home half of the fourth. Sophomore Connor Finn drew a leadoff walk and then stole second before scoring on a single to right from senior Luke Doughty, who later scored on a fielder's choice. Emerson drew back within a run in the fifth when first year Vincent Fuller was hit by a pitch and later scored on a passed ball.
Saint Joseph got that run back in the bottom of the fifth and then broke the game open with a five run sixth. Finn provided the exclamation point in the frame with a two-run single to center.
Finn finished 1-for-2 at the plate for Saint Joseph's with a walk, run scored and two RBI, while Doughty hit 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Game 2: Saint Joseph's 4, Emerson 3
Saint Joseph rode a three run fifth inning to the game two win. After senior Michael Richards drew a leadoff walk and later scored on a wild pitch, sophomore Nick Villano and Connor Finn each added RBI singles in an inning that was fueled by four walks (one intentional), a balk and two wild pitches.

Luke Doughty batted 2-for-2 with a double, walk, stolen base and a run scored for Saint Joseph's. Villano and Finn each finished 1-for-3 with an RBI for the Monks, while sophomore Nate Leavitt earned the win (1-0), allowing two earned runs on five hits with a strikeout and two walks over four innings. Senior Ryan Thurber earned the save with two perfect innings, striking out one.
Senior Charlie Coors finished 1-for-2 at the plate for Emerson with two RBI, while Justin Fields and Vincent Fuller each doubled. Senior Huon Fitzpatrick pitched four solid innings for the Lions, allowing just an earned run on a hit and a walk with four strikeouts.
Emerson erased a first inning run from Saint Joseph's in the second as Fuller roped a lead off double and then scored on a single up the middle from Coors. The Lions grabbed the lead in the fourth when McCoy drew a lead off walk, stole second and then scored on a squeeze bunt from junior Ethan Chanthompalit.
Saint Joseph's reclaimed the lead for good with its three-run fifth before Emerson capped the scoring in the home half when Fields led off with a double and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Coors. The Lions would leave the tying run on third in the inning and then Thurber shut the door by keeping them off the bases over the final two innings.

Emerson (0-4, 0-0 NEWMAC) returns to action on Thursday when it faces Albertus Magnus College at Lake Myrtle Park at 6 p.m. The Lions next home game is scheduled for Tuesday, March 17, when they host Wentworth Institute of Technology at New England Baseball Complex in Marlborough, Massachusetts, at 3:30 p.m. Saint Joseph's (8-0, 0-0 GNAC) will face Anderson (Ind.) College for a doubleheader tomorrow starting at 9:30 a.m.
