Babson Holds Off Men's Basketball

Beavers limit Lions to 37.3-percent shooting and use balanced scoring

BABSON PARK, Mass. (January 17, 2026) – Babson College held off Emerson College down the stretch to earn its fourth-straight Conference win with a 61-52 victory in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's basketball matchup at Staake Gymnasium this afternoon.

Senior Timmy O'Toole led a trio of Babson players with a team-leading 11 points and game-best 15 rebounds for a double-double in a balanced effort. Freshman Thomas Ferdinando added 11 points and six boards, while sophomore Timmy Mulvey finished with 11 points on 3-of-7 shooting from three-point range with two rebounds. Senior Tyler Lauder rounded out the Beavers in double figures with ten points on 5-of-7 shooting, filling the boxscore with four rebounds, three assists, three blocks and two steals.

Junior Shay Roban was the lone Emerson player in double figures with a game-high 14 points, connecting on 4-of-7 three-pointers off the bench. Senior Linus Helmhold contributed eight points and nine rebounds for the Lions, while junior Guillermo Gasset Ruiz finished with seven points and four boards.

Babson never trailed as Ferdinando scored on the opening possession and added a three-pointer as the Beavers scored the first five points of the contest. The Beavers used a 13-4 run to push their lead into double digits (30-17) after a three-pointer by sophomore Logan Murphy with 6:20 remaining in the first half.

Babson carried an 11-point cushion into the second half, but Emerson scored six straight points from three different players to close back within six (33-27) after a putback from sophomore Giulio Volonte just over five minutes into the frame. Three-pointers from Roban and senior Brendan McNamara drew the Lions back within a possession (37-35) with 7:27 to play and a second Roban triple had the visitors within two (47-45) with 3:40 left.

Babson followed with six-straight points from three different scorers to reclaim an eight-point lead (53-45) with 2:23 to play and was able to pull away late at the free-throw line to secure the win.
