Hokenson double-double leads Lions to first 3-0 NEWMAC start

NEWPORT, R.I. (September 30, 2025) – Emerson College has won its first three conference games for the first time since 2012 after securing a 3-1 (25-16, 23-25, 25-19, 25-19) victory over Salve Regina University in a NEWMAC women's volleyball matchup at Rodgers Recreation Center tonight.

Sophomore Chloe Hokenson notched a double-double with a career-high matching 12 kills (.294) and 12 assists to go with two service aces and a block to lead Emerson to its first three NEWMAC matches in program history, and first 3-0 start in Conference play overall since winning its first nine as members of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference in 2012. First-year Shirley Yu joined Hokenson in double-digits for the fourth-straight match with ten kills, while sophomore Sophia Schiappa dished out a career-best 20 assists. Sophomore Lily Nguyen contributed a season-high 12 digs and classmate Sami Kim served up four of the Lions 11 aces in the match.

Sophomore Anouk Jansen led Salve with a match-high 16 kills (.519), while classmate Lauren Shurling totaled 12 kills and eight digs. Sophomore Kalena Stavish posted 16 assists for the Seahawks.

After splitting the first two sets, Emerson jumped out to a 15-5 lead in the third to grab control of the match. Junior Rachel Dickerson paced the Lions with four kills and two aces in the frame.

Trailing in the fourth set (14-13), Emerson used a 6-1 run to grab the lead for good (19-15) keyed by a pair of aces from junior Lauren Yoo.
