Softball Posts Two Wins Over Lasell

BOSTON, Mass.- The Emerson College softball team swept a doubleheader against Lasell Thursday afternoon at Rotch Field, prevailing 8-3 and 6-1.


GAME ONE
THE BASICS:
Score: Emerson 8, Lasell 3
Records: Lions (7-6) | Lasers (1-10)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Emerson opened the scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning to claim a 1-0 lead. Avi Kuperman (Newton, Mass.) scorched a single back up the middle to drive in Sam Zannotti (Dudley, Mass.).
  • The Lions added a run in the second to double their advantage to 2-0. Ally Lacey (Londonderry, N.H.) tagged up and motored home from third base on a sacrifice fly by Grace Beaulieu (Rochester, N.H.).
  • The home side generated three runs in the third inning to stretch the gap to 5-0.
  • Lasell got on the board in the top of the fourth, scoring three runs to trim the deficit to 5-3.
  • Emerson notched three runs in the sixth to regain a five-run cushion, 8-3. Avi Kuperman (Newton, Mass.) laced a triple to plate Grace Beaulieu (Rochester, N.H.) and Carly Rosenberger (Conshohocken, Pa.). Caleigh Sheehan (Bolton, Conn.) followed with an RBI base hit to knock in Avi Kuperman (Newton, Mass.).
     

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Avi Kuperman (Newton, Mass.) racked up three hits, three RBIs, and one run scored.
  • Sam Zannotti (Dudley, Mass.) tallied three hits, two stolen bases, and one run scored.
  • Ally Lacey (Londonderry, N.H.) finished with two base knocks, two runs scored, and an RBI.
  • Caleigh Sheehan (Bolton, Conn.) spun her fourth complete game of the year and fanned 10 batters.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Lasell produced one run in the top of the first inning to snag an early 1-0 edge.
  • Emerson chalked up one run in the fourth to level the game at 1-1. Jessica Gomez (West Chester, Pa.) scampered home from third base on an RBI groundout by Riley Caiazza (Schaghticoke, N.Y.).
  • The Lions manufactured four runs in the bottom of the fifth frame to capture a 5-1 advantage. Jessica Gomez (West Chester, Pa.) roped a double to left-centerfield to drive in Danica Miles (Toms River, N.J.) and Sam Zannotti (Dudley, Mass.). Avi Kuperman (Newton, Mass.) followed with a triple to plate Jessica Gomez (West Chester, Pa.) before tagging up and scoring on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Riley Caiazza (Schaghticoke, N.Y.).
  • Emerson tacked on one run in the sixth inning to widen the margin to 6-1. Grace Beaulieu (Rochester, N.H.) singled down the right field line to knock in Danica Miles (Toms River, N.J.) from third with two outs.


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Jessica Gomez (West Chester, Pa.) collected two hits, two RBIs, and two runs scored.
  • Avi Kuperman (Newton, Mass.) finished with two hits, one RBI, one run scored, and a stolen base.
  • Grace Beaulieu (Rochester, N.H.) added one base knock, one RBI, and one stolen base.
  • Danica Miles (Toms River, N.J.) scored a pair of runs to go with two stolen bases.
  • Sofia Holden (Manchester, Conn.) tossed one inning and recorded one strikeout in her first collegiate start. Jessica Gomez (West Chester, Pa.) pitched six innings of relief and registered three strikeouts.
