Women’s Basketball Prevails at MIT, 82-72

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- The Emerson College women's basketball team collected an 82-72 victory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Wednesday evening.


THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Emerson boasted a 20-16 lead through the opening quarter of action.
  • The Lions outscored the Engineers 16-12 in the second period to widen the margin to 36-28 at the half.
  • The visitors poured in 23 points in the third while limiting the home side to 10 points to carry a 59-38 advantage into the fourth quarter.
  • Emerson stretched the gap to 24 points on its first possession of the fourth frame as Kendra Dodd (Tampa, Fla.) drilled a trey, 62-38.
  • MIT battled back to trim the deficit to 70-61 with 2:32 remaining in regulation on a layup by Kamsi Nwogu.
  • The Lions converted 12-of-14 free throw attempts down the stretch to stave off the Engineers' comeback bid and deal MIT its first conference loss of the season.


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Bri Frongillo (Hopedale, Mass.) scored 23 points to go with seven assists and five rebounds.
  • Charlotte Levison (Atherton, Calif.) netted 17 points and grabbed nine boards.
  • Claire English (Winchester, Mass.) posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Jessie Silk (Newton, Mass.) finished with 13 points and five boards.
  • Emerson concluded the contest with a field-goal percentage of 42.2% and connected on 7-of-26 from beyond the arc.
  • MIT shot 38.2% from the floor and 23.8% from the perimeter on the night.
  • Kamsi Nwogu paced the Engineers with 17 points while Elise Harvey notched 13 points and Kaya Weiser chipped in with 12 points off the bench.
