WORCESTER, Mass. (October 29, 2025) – Emerson College punched its ticket to the postseason by capping a six-goal thriller with Worcester Polytechnic Institute with the only two goals of the second half in a 4-2 triumph in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's soccer action at H. Carr Field tonight.
Emerson clinched a spot in next week's NEWMAC Tournament with the win, entering Saturday's regular season finale in fourth place in the Conference standings with 10 points, three ahead of seventh place WPI (7 points) and holding the head-to-head tiebreaker with the win tonight. The Lions are tied with Springfield College, just three points behind Babson College (13 points), holding the head-to-head over the Beavers, and two points shy of Coast Guard (12) with one match to play.
Junior Rohan Edwards totaled four points with a goal and two assists to lead Emerson to its third-straight NEWMAC win, while first-year Carlo Carson added a goal and assist. Senior Kyler Maira and first-year Nayan Martlin each added goals for the Lions.
First-year Asa Roberts made all three of his saves in a scoreless second half in the Emerson goal to allow the Lions to seal the win with two goals. Sophomore Savio Ketnouvong finished with one save in goal for WPI.
The Engineers got first half goals from sophomore Mike Montabana and freshman Erol Gamus, both equalizing the match after Emerson took the lead.
Emerson opened the four-goal first half when Carson headed in a cross by Edwards for his third goal of the year 10:13 into the match. Montabana's third goal of the season from a free kick less than ten minutes later knotted the match in the 20th minute.
Martlin chipped in his first collegiate goal to restore Emerson's lead in the 32nd minute off a pass from first-year Nick Mirogiannis, but WPI leveled the match yet again as Gamus potted his first career goal in the 35th minute.
Edwards had a hand in both Emerson goals in the second half to seal the win. He scored his second goal of the year off a cross by Carson 3:36 into the second half to give the Lions the lead for good. He assisted on the Lions insurance marker by Maira for his fourth goal of the year in the 56th minute for what would prove to be the last of the combined six goals over the first 55:12 of the contest before neither team scored in the final 34 minutes.
