Women’s Volleyball Bests Benedictine, Falls at Colby

WATERVILLE, Maine- The Emerson College women's volleyball team posted a 3-0 victory over Benedictine before dropping a 3-2 decision at Colby Saturday.


EMERSON VS. BENEDICTINE
THE BASICS:
Score: Emerson 3, Benedictine 0

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Emerson rolled to a 25-12 win in the first set to grab a 1-0 lead.
  • The Lions doubled their advantage to 2-0 with a 25-22 victory in the second frame.
  • Emerson triumphed 25-17 in the third to lock up its first-ever win over Benedictine.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Amelia Combs (Eugene, Ore.) tallied a match-best 16 kills to go with seven digs.
  • Parker Cummings (Rochester, N.Y.) racked up 12 kills and 10 digs.
  • Brooke Maynez (Las Cruces, N.M.) chipped in with nine kills.
  • Mia Rodriguez (Palmetto Bay, Fla.) dished out 36 assists and added seven digs.
  • Caroline Davis (Orlando, Fla.) chalked up 23 digs and five service aces while Lily Nguyen (West Hartford, Conn.) posted a season-high 14 digs.

  • The Lions prevailed 25-23 in the second set to widen the margin to 2-0.
  • Colby cruised to a 25-13 victory in the third to cut the deficit to 2-1.
  • The home team edged the visitors 26-24 in the fourth frame to force a decisive fifth set.
  • The Mules claimed a 15-9 decision in the fifth to earn their eighth-consecutive win.
