Men's Volleyball's Season Ends in GNAC Playoff Loss to Rivier

NASHUA, NH - The Emerson men's volleyball team's 2024 season came to a close on Tuesday night. Rivier swept the Lions in the quarterfinals of the GNAC Championship Tournament. Emerson lost by set scores of 25-20, 25-18, 25-17. Rivier moves on to the GNAC Championship Semifinals, where they are set to face #2 seed Lasell.

Emerson led 8-6 early in the first set, bur Rivier's luck turned after a 6-0 run put them ahead 12-8. Emerson was unable to regain their footing before they dropped the set 25-20. The second set saw more of a back-and-forth between the two teams. The score was tied at 16 before the Raiders scored nine points to Emerson's two to close out the set, 25-18. The third set saw Rivier take an early 12-6 lead before putting their foot on the gas. The score at match point was 24-17 before the Raiders put the game away to ensure their advancement to the next round of the GNAC Championship.

Rivier's attack was firing on all cylinders throughout the night. The Raiders converted 50 kills and made 15 errors on 85 total attacks for a nearly unstoppable .412% efficiency. Sokunbuth Ly (Gr. - Lowell, MA) led Rivier with 15 kills, with Matthew McCloskey (So. - Salem, NH) not too far behind with 11 kills of his own. Neil Rea (Sr. - Windham, NH) dished out 40 assists during the evening, while Ryan Peace (Sr. - Goffstown, NH) tallied eight kills, six block assists, and a service ace for 12 total points.

Emerson converted 21 kills and made 14 errors on 64 total attacks for a .109% efficiency. Chase Fagen (So. - Rye, NY) had a team-high seven kills while Theo Hackett (So. - Portland, ME) had five kills and a service ace. Bayden Slavik (Jr. - Chicago, IL) had 16 assists to go with three kills and an ace.
