HOW IT HAPPENED
- Clark got on the board first in the opening inning, as R. Caulfield scored when M. Soares grounded into a double play. The Cougars scored again in the second inning off a sacrifice fly to left field by T. Jones, which allowed M. Salzillo to score. The visitors' third and final run of the game was scored by Jones, who crossed the plate thanks to C. Doran getting beaned with the bases loaded. Emerson tallied five hits in the game but couldn't make anything of them as they were shut out. Three of those hits came in the first inning off the bats of Chris Ferara, Braeden O'Connell, and Justin Fields. Ryan Herskowitz picked one up in the fourth inning, and Nicholas Favazzo tallied the last hit of the afternoon for the Lions in the sixth inning.
- Shane Moriarty started on the mound for Emerson, pitching five innings and giving three earned runs on two hits to go along with two strikeouts, five walks, and four hit batters. Chris Lowe relieved him at the start of the sixth inning and shut out Clark for the rest of the game while allowing five hits with a strikeout and a walk. Maxwell Gitlin got the start for the visitors. Gitlin started for Clark in their last game against Emerson and posted a complete game while giving up two runs on two hits. Gitlin one-upped that past performance by pitching a complete-game-shutout, giving up five hits and striking out seven.
