Baseball Falls by Mercy Rule in Six Innings to Bridgewater State, 13-1

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - It was a tough outing for Emerson baseball on Thursday afternoon, as the Lions were mercied 13-1 by hosts Bridgewater State in six innings.

Emerson was held to three hits, with one of them coming from Nicholas Favazzo (Lexington, Mass.) as he extended his hit streak to 12 games and his reached base streak to 22 games. Briggs Loveland (Burleson, Tex.), Braeden O'Connell (Boxford, Mass.), and Ethan Chanthompalit (Lowell, Mass.) tallied the other three hits for the Lions, with O'Connell's driving in Emerson's only run.

The Lions fall to 5-20 on the season, while the Bears improve to 13-12.

GAME SUMMARY
A three-run home run by Bridgewater's Jay Wladowski (Norwood, Mass.) gave the Bears a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Bridgewater piled on seven runs in the next frame to take a 10-0 lead and added three more in the third inning to put the score at 13-0.

Emerson scored their first and only run of the game in the top of the fourth inning, as a double to right center by O'Connell allowed Favazzo to come around and score. Both teams were shut out the rest of the game, and the blanking of the Lions in the top of the sixth led to the mercy rule being called.

First-year Connor Travis (Fall River, Mass.) gave up 10 runs and eight hits in two innings pitched in his first career start for the Lions; Tyler Metcalf (Louisville, Ky.) pitched the last four innings, letting up three hits and three runs. Bears starter Jaden Arruda (Seekonk, Mass.) pitched four innings and allowed one hit and one run.
