THE LEAD
Northborough, Mass. - Emerson's baseball team was mercied in seven innings on Friday afternoon, falling 22-6 to a visiting UMass Dartmouth. Baseball moves to 3-11 on the season, while UMass Dartmouth improves to 8-10. This game was originally scheduled for Thursday, March 28, but was rescheduled due to inclement weather.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Emerson got out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, as a single up the middle by
Braeden O'Connell drove in two. That would be the only lead for Emerson in the game, as UMass Dartmouth responded by scoring five runs in the top of the second inning.
- The Lions scored again in the third inning after a throwing error to first base from the Corsairs' shortstop on a ground ball by O'Connell allowed a run to score, but it was all UMass Dartmouth from there on out. The Corsairs scored three runs in the fourth inning, six runs in the fifth and sixth, and two runs in the seventh.
- Emerson tried to chip away at the deficit in the sixth, as a comebacker to the pitcher by
Nicholas Favazzo drove one in. The Lions put two more on the board in the seventh thanks to back-to-back RBI singles by
Tobey Roberts and
Charlie Coors. Neither effort ended up being enough to get Emerson out of the hole, leading to the mercy rule being called at the end of the inning.
NEXT UP
Baseball continues its NEWMAC schedule with a visit to Babson Park this weekend for a doubleheader against the Beavers on Saturday, March 30th. The first game is scheduled for 12:00 p.m., and the second is slated to start at 3:00 p.m. The Lions will be looking to shake off the 10-2 loss to Clark in their NEWMAC opener this past Tuesday. Babson is currently 1-0 in conference play, defeating MIT 14-8 this past Tuesday as well.
