HOW IT HAPPENED
- Emerson got out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, as a single up the middle by Braeden O'Connell drove in two. That would be the only lead for Emerson in the game, as UMass Dartmouth responded by scoring five runs in the top of the second inning.
- The Lions scored again in the third inning after a throwing error to first base from the Corsairs' shortstop on a ground ball by O'Connell allowed a run to score, but it was all UMass Dartmouth from there on out. The Corsairs scored three runs in the fourth inning, six runs in the fifth and sixth, and two runs in the seventh.
- Emerson tried to chip away at the deficit in the sixth, as a comebacker to the pitcher by Nicholas Favazzo drove one in. The Lions put two more on the board in the seventh thanks to back-to-back RBI singles by Tobey Roberts and Charlie Coors. Neither effort ended up being enough to get Emerson out of the hole, leading to the mercy rule being called at the end of the inning.
