The Lead: The No. 6 Lions traveled to the No. 2 Clark Cougars on Thursday evening for a NEWMAC Tournament Quarterfinals clash. The Lions were led on offense by Trevor Arico who poured in a team high 18-points while dishing out 5 assists. Jacob Armat came off the bench and scored 17 points while Brendan McNamara scored 10 points and dished out 5 assists for Emerson.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Lions were led on offense by Trevor Arico who poured in a team high 18-points while dishing out 5 assists. Jacob Armat came off the bench and scored 17 points while Brendan McNamara scored 10 points and dished out 5 assists for Emerson.
  • Clark was led on offense by Bruce Saintilus who scored a game high 21-points while Kekoa McArdle scored 17-points and controlled the glass, pulling down 12 rebounds as he recorded a double-double.
  • This was a tightly contested matchup throughout as the No. 2 Clark Cougars controlled the paint; outscoring the Lions by a score of 38-14 while the No. 6 Emerson Lions were hot from the perimeter as they drilled 12 of 24 shots from deep.
  • Clark was also able to capitalize on Emerson miscues as the Cougars scored 19 points off Emerson turnovers.
  • The Lions held a slim, 2-point lead heading into halftime, but Clark took control in the second half. Clark retook the lead with just over 17 minutes remaining in regulation.
  • Once Clark took the lead, they never looked back. The Lions did their best to regain momentum, but the Cougar defense kept the Lions at bay.
  • Clark secured a 78-70 victory in the NEWMAC Quarterfinal matchup and advanced to the NEWMAC Championship on Saturday afternoon.
