Women’s Volleyball Falls at No. 4 MIT in NEWMAC Quarterfinals, 3-1

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- The eighth-seeded Emerson College women's volleyball team suffered a 3-1 setback at top-seeded Massachusetts Institute of Technology Tuesday evening in the NEWMAC Tournament quarterfinals. The Engineers entered the match ranked No. 4 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association National Poll.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Engineers captured the first set 25-19 to seize a 1-0 lead.
  • MIT prevailed 27-25 in the second frame to widen the gap to 2-0.
  • Emerson battled back to claim the third set 25-20 to cut the deficit to 2-1.
  • The home side rolled to a 25-12 decision in the fourth to secure its 30th-consecutive victory.


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Amelia Combs (Eugene, Ore.) posted a match-high 23 kills to go with 15 digs and three aces.
  • Parker Cummings (Rochester, N.Y.) and Brooke Maynez (Las Cruces, N.M.) both finished with 10 kills on the night.
  • Chloe Hokenson (McLean, Va.) registered 28 assists and 15 digs.
  • Caroline Davis (Orlando, Fla.) racked up a team-best 21 digs while Lauren Yoo (Redondo Beach, Calif.) added eight digs.

NEWMAC TOURNAMENT BRACKET:
With Tuesday's results, MIT advances to face No. 5 seed Babson in the NEWMAC Tournament semifinals November 14. In the other semifinal matchup, second-seeded Springfield will take on No. 3 seed Smith.
