Women’s Volleyball Suffers 3-1 Setback to Smith

BOSTON, Mass.- The Emerson College women's volleyball team endured a 3-1 loss to Smith Tuesday evening at the Bobbi Brown & Steven Plofker Gym.


THE BASICS:
Score: Emerson 1, Smith 3
Records: Lions (10-13, 2-6 NEWMAC) | Pioneer (20-5, 7-1 NEWMAC)
 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Smith captured the opening frame 25-22 to seize a 1-0 advantage.
  • Emerson answered with a 25-22 win in the second set to knot the match at 1-1.
  • The visitors eked out a 25-23 decision in the third to reclaim a one-set lead, 2-1.
  • The Pioneers edged the Lions 25-23 in the fourth frame to secure their 20th victory of the season.


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Chloe Hokenson (McLean, Va.) notched her second triple-double of the year as she posted 15 assists, 12 kills, and 10 digs to go with four aces.
  • Amelia Combs (Eugene, Ore.) chalked up nine kills and seven digs.
  • Parker Cummings (Rochester, N.Y.) and Brooke Maynez (Las Cruces, N.M.) both chipped in with six kills.
  • Caroline Davis (Orlando, Fla.) paced Emerson with 15 digs while Mia Rodriguez (Palmetto Bay, Fla.) added 12 assists.


KILLER QUEEN:
With a nine-kill effort on the night, senior Amelia Combs (Eugene, Ore.) became the program's all-time leader in career kills. Combs has compiled 1,066 career kills in four seasons with the Lions.


DIG PINK:
Emerson hosted its annual Dig Pink match to benefit The Side-Out Foundation's breast cancer awareness efforts.
