The Lead: Behind freshman Thomas Pelino's goal in the 68th minute of the second half, the Emerson men's soccer team snagged their first win of the 2023 season in a 1-0 triumph over Bates on Tuesday night. The win marked the program's first ever victory over a NESCAC team, as well LIam McKersie's first victory as a head coach.

HOW IT HAPPENEDĀ
-Neither team was able to find the back of the net through the first 45 minutes of action as the score sat at 0-0 at the break. Emerson out shot Bates, 10-5.Ā
68": With just over 20 minutes gone in the second frame, Emerson finally caught the offensive spark they needed and snagged the 1-0 lead in the 68th minutes. Off a feed from Deeming, Pelino drove through defenders in the box. Using his right foot, Pelino's shot made its way into the top left corner and just past Hammond's fingertips.Ā
-Bates could not break through Emerson's back line and sent just one shot Hobbs' way through the remaining 22 minutes of regulation as the Lions' preserved the 1-0 victory.Ā
