The Lead:Ā The Emerson Women's Volleyball team traveled over the bridge to visit No. 18 MIT in the NEWMAC Quarterfinals. The Lions came up short as they fell to MIT in straight sets on Tuesday afternoon as their 2023 season came to a close.

HOW IT HAPPENEDĀ 
SET ONE
The Engineers set the tone early in set one as they jumped out to an early 8-2 lead. Despite the early deficit, the Lions were able to stay within striking distance of the Engineers. Down 19-10, the Lions rattled off 7 of the next 8 points that were scored and get to within three points of MIT. Ahead by a score of 20-17, the Engineers scored five if the next 5 points to secure a 25-18 set one victory.

SET TWO
The second set began with both teams trading points and the early portion of the set remaining close with neither team able to create a large lead. The set went down to the wire. The Lions attack converted 13 of their 37 attempts to kills, committing 6 errors while the Engineers converted 15 of their 44 attempts to kills while only vomiting 5 errors. Late in the set, the teams found themselves in a 23-23 tie before MIT took the lead on a kill and then secured a 25-23 victory on an error by Emerson.

SET THREE
The Lions attack struggled in set number three, committing 7 errors on 30 attempts and only tallying 7 kills. The MIT attack stayed consistent as they notched 10 kills on 26 attempts and only committed four errors. After finding themselves in a 10-point deficit, the Lions were able to climb back into the set and get within three points of the Engineers. As the Lions pushed to extend the match to a fourth set, the Engineers caught fire and score 9 of the final 12 points scored and secured a 25-14 set victory and a 3-0 match victory.
