The Lead: The Emerson Women's Basketball team defeated Colby-Sawyer in their home opener on Saturday afternoon. The Lions were led by Olivia Deslauriers who dropped a game-high 19 points while Ella Bushee chipped in 16 points and pulled down 8 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENEDĀ 
  • The Lions came out slow in the first quarter as Colby-Sawyer jumped out to a 12-3 lead, giving the Lions an uphill in the early stages of the game.
  • The Lions offense was led by Olivia Deslaurier in the first 10 minutes of action as she dropped in 6 of her game-high 19 points. The Lions clawed back into the game as the first quarter came to a close, they were trailing by a score or 17-13.
  • Deslaurier again led the Lions in the 2nd quarter as they were able to close the narrow lead created by Colby-Sawyer and overtake the lead by halftime.
  • The Lions fell behind by as many as 10 points, but slowly chipped away at Colby-Sawyer's lead. With the Chargers ahead by one point and :38 remaining in the half, Kendra Dodd stole a pass, and converted an and-one layup to give the Lions a 38-36 lead as the teams entered halftime. This was the Lions first lead of the game.
  • The Lions continued to pace the Chargers coming out of halftime, keeping a slim lead. Bri Frongillo led the Lions with 8 points as they entered the final quarter with a 55-52 lead.
  • The Lions kept a slim lead throughout the final 10 minutes until the Chargers were able to re-take the lead with 1:33 remaining in regulation
  • With under a minute remaining, Dodd was able to convert another layup to give the Lions a late lead; a lead they would not relinquish as Deslauriers hit a dagger layup with :16 remaining to secure a 69-66 win for Emerson.
