The Lead: The Emerson's Women's Basketball team was led by Senior Chelsea Gibbons' 18 points and 11 rebounds as they cruised to their first NEWMAC victory of the 2023 season over Mount Holyoke on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The Lions offense was hot from start to finish on Saturday afternoon. Led by Senior Chelsea Gibbons, Emerson took a 3-0 lead less than one minute into the game and never looked back.
  • The Lions converted 25 of 58 (43.1%) field goal attempts including 6 of 14 (42.9%) from three-point distance. Emerson's defense was also able to hold Mount Holyoke to 17 of 61 (27.9%) from the field including only converting 6 of 22 (27.3%) from three-point distance.
  • The Lions dominated the paint, outscoring Mount Holyoke 34 to 12 down low.
  • Emerson also got great contribution from their bench, outscoring Mount Holyoke's bench 22 to 7; including 7 points apiece from Sophomore's Mackenzie Bruno and Quinn O'Connor.
  • The Lions ultimately separated themselves and put the game out of reach in the thirst quarter. Entering the quarter with a 41-26 lead, Emerson outscored Mount Holyoke 18-8 in the frame, giving Emerson their largest lead of 27 points with :20 remaining in the quarter.
  • Mount Holyoke did outscore Emerson in the final 10 minutes by a score of 13-10, but the lead the Lions had built was too much to overcome as they secured a 69-47 victory on Saturday afternoon.
