HOW IT HAPPENED
- Emerson overpowered Coast Guard within the first 20 minutes and spared no time getting on the board as the Lions jumped out to the 11-3 lead. Houston got Emerson's scoring going with back-to-back buckets before Martin closed the run with a triple.
- Just Jackson's jumper at 11:30 kept Coast Guard within single digits at 17-10, Emerson answered and knocked down its next four shots to push its lead into double-figures at 24-10.
- Coast Guard kept pace with Emerson and slimmed the Lions' lead down to six behind a 12-2 spark as a free throw by Rooney moved the score to 26-20 with 5:49 to go in the first.
- After Coast Guard closed the gap to six, Emerson rattled off the next 14 points to extend their lead to 18 before a layup by Nathan Aime set the score at 40-24 in favor of the Lions at the half.
- At the half, Emerson heavily outshot Coast Guard, 42.4% to the Bears' 24.3%, while the Lions' also dominated the hosts in the paint, 32-10.
- A Beckwith trifecta at 18:54 helped Emerson storm out the gate at the start of the second and rattled off 12 consecutive points to bolster their lead into the 20s at 52-26.
- Emerson continued to dominate down the stretch and kept Coast Guard in a 20-point hole through much of the frame. With 11 ticks in regulation, Rooney connected on a three to pull the Bears within 18 as the Lions cruised to the 79-61 road win.
