The Lead: Sophomore Parker Cummings notched a game high 11 kills while classmate Brooke Maynez added 7 more kills as the Lions defeated Wentworth 3-0 on Friday night at Tansey Gymasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE
- The Lions took a commanding lead to begin the first set. Aces by Senior Caroline Bond, Sophomore Amelia Combs, and kills by Senior Jillian Kay and Sophomore Parker Cummings helped Emerson open a 8-1 lead.
- Wentworth was forced to call a timeout in an attempt to stop Emerson's momentum. The Lions continued to keep their distance from the Leopards as they built a 19-11 lead.
- Wentworth found some momentum late as they rattled off 6 consecutive points, forcing Emerson to call a timeout as they cut the lead to just two points.
- Coming out of the timeout, the Lions scored 6 of the next 7 points to give them a 25-18 set victory.
SET TWO
- The Lions stayed strong into the second set. Kills by Cummings and Kay along with another ace by Bond gave the Lions a 5-2 advantage.
- The teams began trading points as set two found itself at a 10-10 tie after a block by Wentworth's Riley Schoonmaker.
- The Lions pulled away as Wentworth was unable to string together consecutive points until late in the set. With Emerson ahead by a score of 24-16, Wentworth closed the gap by scoring three straight points before Cummings put a stop to the rally with a set clinching kill. Emerson led the match 2-0.
SET THREE
- The third set was tightly contested early. Kills by Sophomore Brooke Maynez and Junior Isabella Cubba helped the Lions to a 7-5 lead before the Leopards found some momentum.
- Wentworth scored the next 6 points, forcing Emerson to call a timeout to regroup.
- With the score 11-7 in favor of Wentworth, the Lions could not capture any momentum and found themselves down 14-9.
- Wentworth quickly lost all momentum when Emerson scored the next 7 points all on errors by the Leopards. Emerson found themselves back on top; 16-14
- The Lions scored 9 of the final 10 points, pushing them to a 25-17 victory and securing a 3-0 sweep over Wentworth.
