HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE
- Sophomores Amelia Combs, Brooke Maynez and Freshman Taylor Esmie led the charge for the Lions in the opening set; racking up 10 of Emerson's 14 kills.
- The Lions fell behind 2-1 early in the opening set before capturing the lead and never giving it back to the Beacons.
- With the score tied at 3-3, Emerson scored 9 of the next 10 points, jumping out to a 12-4 lead.
- The Beacons were able to battle back and close the gap, but the Lions would keep the pressure on and not allow the Beacons to get within striking distance.
- The Lions were able to lock up a 25-16 set victory.
SET TWO
- The second set was highlighted by a 9-point run by the Lions. Down by two points, kills by Junior Isabella Cubba, Seniors Caroline Bond and Maynez all helped propel the Lions from down two points to an 18-11 lead.
- The Lions continued to keep the Beacons at bay and build a 24-16 lead, but with only one point needed to close out the set, the Beacons stormed back into striking distance. The Beacons scored five consecutive points to close Emerson lead, but a kill by Combs would ultimately close out the set for the Lions; 25-21.
SET THREE
- Three consecutive errors by Amherst gave the Lions their first lead of the match.
- The Lions proceeded to build their lead to 6-4 as Sophomore Amelia Combs tallied two consecutive kills and an ace for Emerson.
- Kills by Cummings and Senior Logan Steenbergen helped the Lions in
SET FOUR
- Set number four saw little resistance by UMASS Boston. Emerson was quickly ahead by a score of 10-2 and the Beacons would never recover.
- Combs and Maynez would do most of the damage for the Lions as they cruised to a 25-9 victory and a 3-1 match victory.
UP NEXT
The Lions return home on Saturday, October 29th to host NEWMAC opponent Mount Holyoke in their final regular season game of the season. The Lions will honor their seniors prior to the 12pm game time.
