HOW IT HAPPENED

SET ONE

  • The set started off close with the margin at no more than four in Emerson's favor. With a five-point 12-7 lead, Emerson surrendered the next trio of points to allow Endicott to close within a pair at 12-10.
  • A 6-2 spark by the Lions that began on a swing from freshman Taylor Esmie extended Emerson to their largest lead of six at 18-12.
  • Endicott, however, responded with the next six of seven points to close the gap and use a kill from Gilbert to put the score at 20-18. Emerson rang off the next four consecutive points behind a pair of Combs' kills and Gulls' attack miscues to snag the 24-18 lead.
  • Endicott kept themselves alive with two more scores to pull within four, but Cummings' kill iced the first set, 25-20.

SET TWO

  • After Emerson jumped out to the quick 4-0 edge to start off the second, Endicott came back with the next five points to put themselves in front at 5-4. Four ties followed, the last at 8-all, before the Lions began to put distance between them and the Gulls.
  • Seven of the next nine points went Emerson's way and gave them the 14-10 edge, but once again, Endicott gathered themselves and recorded the next three scores to pull within one at 14-13.
  • A string of the next six of eight points included four kills, two from Combs and two from senior Jillian Kay, to bolster the host's cushion up to five at 20-15.
  • After Endicott took the timeout, Emerson kept the scoring streak going and tacked on the set's final five points to take the second set, 25-15.

SET THREE

  • For much of the third set, Emerson and Endicott were neck-and-neck with one another as the score never exceeded four.
  • With Emerson ahead at 17-15, the Lions controlled the remainder of the frame and powered out a 8-0 spark to seal the sweep, 25-15.

UP NEXT

  • Emerson head out to Amherst for their second to last road slate of the 2022 regular season on Saturday, October 22nd at 2:00 p.m.
