HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE
- Emerson gained an early four-point lead at 10-6 before Salve Regina erased their deficit and answered with five of the next six points to level the score 11-all.
- The Seahawks locked the score once again at 12, but the hosts responded and used the next three points to jump ahead, 19-15, on two Cummings' swings and a ball handling miscue by the visitors.
- For the remainder of the frame, Emerson would hold Salve Regina within five and snagged the 25-18 first-set victory.
SET TWO
- Back-to-back kills from Lauren Hoyle followed by a Lions attack mishap allowed Salve to claim a 3-1 edge and kept Emerson within one. With the score at 8-7 Seahawks, the Lions used Combs' kill and an ace from senior Anna Phillips to put the lead back on their end at 9-8.
- Four more ties and four lead changes would occur before Emerson separated themselves on a 6-0 spurt to take the 21-15 advantage they would not relinquish.
- The Seahawks got a kill from Solheim and Corkery to keep them within six, but it was the Lions who used a serving error and Combs' set-winning swing to take the second set, 25-17.
SET THREE
- Emerson commanded the third frame as they held Salve Regina to a negative hit percentage of -.029 and rolled to the 25-15 third-frame win.
- The Lions grabbed the quick 5-1 lead out the gate, only to have the Seahawks tack on the next four points to level the score at 5-all.
- From that point on, Emerson dominated and would not allow Salve Regina to come within more than two. The Lions set off with the stanza's next 18 of 22 points to bolster their cushion into double figures at 22-10.
- In the later portion of the set, Salve Regina registered a run of 5-1 to pull within eight at 23-15, but it was Emerson who sealed the victory with back-to-back kills from freshman Taylor Esmie and senior Becca Polsky.
