HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE
- The first set opened with Emerson taking the five-point advantage at 8-3 thanks to six consecutive kills that included three from Cummings.

- At match point, Smith stayed in the mix with a late 3-0 spurt to close within one at 24-23. After Emerson took the timeout, Combs sent down the set-winning kill and took set one, 25-23.
SET TWO
- With the score margin not exceeding more than two, Emerson held the 9-7 lead before Smith tacked on the next trio of points to claim the 10-9 edge on an ace. Emerson answered and powered out a 12-4 run to gain their biggest lead at 21-15.
- Emerson extend their seven-point cushion and used back-to-back Pioneers' miscues and Combs' ace at the line to push the score to 24-16.
- Mia Moscicki notched one last point for Smith on a kill, but Emerson capitalized on a Smith service mishap and took the second set, 25-17.

- Emerson opened the third frame with a quick four points and were able to separate themselves by seven at the midway point at 17-10 on a kill, ace and Pioneers' serving error.
- Up seven, Emerson stayed strong on the attack and strung together the next seven of 10 points to bump their lead into double figures at 24-13.
- Smith registered their last point on a swing by Madeleine Manzer to bring them within 10, but Emerson iced the game on the set-winning swing from sophomore Isabella Chu to win 25-14.
