HOW IT HAPPENED
- Emerson trailed 2-0 in the opening set and claimed the lead on a 5-1 run that was capped by a kill from junior Jillian Kay. Despite Springfield locking the game up two more times, Emerson held on to the tight 9-8 lead.
- After Springfield even the set once again at 9-all, the Pride took back the edge with the next two points on a Lions attack error and swing from Bancroft (11-9). Five ties and five lead changes followed as Emerson extended its advantage to four (20-16) on three straight swings from Kay, Combs and freshman Brooke Maynez.
- Springfield was not out of the set yet, for a kill by Julia O'Connor set the Pride off on a 6-0 spark to give the visitors the two point edge (22-20).
- Emerson, however, fought back with the next trio of points and pushed themselves back up one (23-22).
- Swings from Jamie Albrecht and Bancroft got Springfield one point away from a set one win, but it was the hosts who used two kills and an attack error to claim the 26-24 win.
- Emerson kept Springfield at bay with a lead of at least five before the hosts bumped their advantage up to seven at 21-14 on kills from the duo of Combs and Steenbergen. The Pride were able to tally a pair of points to close the keep the Lions' lead at seven with the Purple & Yellow locking up the second set win on a kill and Pride attack error (25-16).
- A quick 6-1 Emerson start to the third frame put momentum on its side, yet Springfield quickly answered with six points of their own to move in front, 7-6. The Pride continued to lead a 9-8, but it was short-lived as the Lions strung three points together to move back in front (11-9).
- Emerson continued to up its edge over Springfield at four (14-10), but Springfield stayed within reach and tied the score up twice, once at 15 and again at 16. The hosts responded with another trio of points to go back up three (19-16) on back-to-back Cummings kills.
- Springfield would not hold the lead again as Emerson was able to maintain a steady six point cushion (23-18) and closed the three-set sweep on a swing by senior Carolyn Vaimoso with the final at 25-19.
