HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the first set, the teams opened up trading off the first 10 points, knotted at 5-5. Wellesley was able to make a small run after the teams were knotted at 9 each to take a 14-10 lead. The Blue built on their lead and extended it to eight at 22-14 on a Nikki Jensen kill. The Lions grabbed four straight points on Vaimoso's serve before Wellesley closed out the set 25-18.
- In the second set, the teams once again came out in a back and forth opening. After Emerson took a 13-0 lead, Wellesley went on a 6-0 run to take a 3 point lead of their own at 16-13. The Lions fought back and took a 19-18 lead before Wellesley went on a 7-3 run to take a 35-22 victory in the second set and a 2-0 lead in the match.
- The third set followed the theme of the first two, with the teams knotted at twelve after 24 points. Wellesley started to pull away and took a five point lead at 19-14. Wellesley built on their lead to take the Lions to 23-16. Emerson scored the next two points forcing Wellesley into a time out, and scored the next two point out of the time out, all four on Lauren QUan's serve. The Lions continued to battle but an attack error eventually gave the Blue a 25-21 victory in the third set and a 3-0 match victory.
