HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The first set was a back and forth affair, with the Sharks earning the first small lead at 7-3  The Lions roared back and tied the score at 10, then building a three point lead of their own at 15-12.  Simmons continued to force the Lions into tough plays, and cut the lead to one multiple times, but the Lions held out and won 25-21 after a kill by Rebecca Polsky and two attack errors from Simmons.
  • The second set saw the Lions jump out to an early 6-0 lead behind two kills from Caroline Bond (Macungie, Penn.), one from Carolyn Vaimoso (Torrance, Calif.), and one from Tepper.  Simmons came tight back and took the lead at 8-7, and held a lead throughout most of the set, eventually building the lead to four at 17-13 on a Riley Roberge service ace.  The Lions fought back and three straight kill storm Alexander knotted the score at 30 before the Lions were able to close out the set 25-23 on a Jillian Kay (Capistrano Beach, Calif.) kill.
  • The third set saw the Lions jump out to another early lead at 6-3, but the Lions came back and took their own small lead at 11-7. Before the Sharks were able to tie the score at 20.  The teams traded points from here on out, before the Lions could string together two points to take the set 27-25.  The Lions took the match 3-0.
