The Lead: The Emerson men's basketball team traveled to Coast Guard for an NEWMAC matchup on Saturday afternoon where sophomore Geoffrey Gray (Newton, Mass.) dished out an overall game-high 21 points and team high nine boards in the Lions' 77-60 setback.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Gray finished 7-for-15 from the field with 21 points and nine boards to pace the Lions offense. Junior Michael Sheng (Altadena, Calif.) followed with 11 points and a steal. Freshman Jack O'Connor (Newport, R.I.) tallied 10 points off the bench.
- Patrick Witkowski went 7-for-10 from the field with a double-double of 17 points and 10 boards. Luke Daniels had a game-high five assists and four steals.
- Emerson went 17-for-55 from the floor (30.9%) and drained 5-of-27 from beyond the arc.
- Coast Guard shot 25-for-65 (38.5%) while making 6-of-17 from downtown.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Coast Guard grabbed the early seven point lead at 15-8 just five and a half minutes into the first half before the Lions pieced together six straight points to cut the deficit to one at 15-14 with 11:01 left.
- The Lions found themselves down two at the half with the score at 26-24 after two good shots by freshman Ben Holding (South Dartmouth, Mass.) from the charity stripe.
- Through the first three minutes of the second half, the Bears started off with an 11-1 streak to grab the 37-25 advantage with 16:58 remaining in regulation.
- Though the Bears grabbed a 12 point edge over the Lions, the Lions answered and embarked on an 11-2 run over the next two minutes with three consecutive three's from Gray, Sheng and O'Connor to bring the score to 39-36 at the 14:52 mark
- Emerson began to slip in the later minutes of the second half as Coast Guard took over and strung together 13 points to stretch its lead to 54-41 with less then nine minutes remaining.
- The Lions could not get more than nine points within the Bears as the Bears handed Emerson the 77-60 loss.

- Emerson is back in action on Wednesday, January 11 and play host to Clark in a NEWMAC matchup at 6:00 p.m.
- Coast Guard remain at home and return to the court on Wednesday, January 11 as well to face NEWMAC foe, MIT, at 7:00 p.m.
