BOSTON, Mass - Women's Basketball played an aggressive game on senior day as they defeated the visiting WPI Engineers 59-48. This closes out the regular season for the Lions with a final record of 11-14 overall and 6-10 in the NEWMAC. WPI drops to 21-4 overall and 13-3 in conference play.
The Lions opened the game with a 3 pointer by Elizabeth Horan, she would go on to hit four more with 17 points overall. Both teams traded points and WPI kept themselves in the fight as Yasmeen Luna and Ama Biney put up multiple points. Emerson's Janissa Delzo put up 5 points in the closing minutes of the opening half as the Lions entered the locker room with a 30-22 lead.
Late in the 3rd quarter the the Engineers got to within four points as Biney hit a layup, followed quickly by a Lions basket by Charlie Boyle. WPI again brought it within four as Sarah Rodgers made a layup. But that was the closest the Engineers would get, as the Lions extended their lead to close out the game 59-48.
Stat leaders for WPI include Biney with 17 points and 5 rebounds, followed by Luna with 10 points. Haili Welton also had 5 rebounds and 2 points.
Leading for the Lions was Horan with 17 points. Eastin Ashby had 10 rebounds and 6 points. While Sierra Ducey contributed 6 points and 8 rebounds.
