Women's Basketball Falls to Springfield

BOSTON, Mass - It was a tough loss for Emerson Women's Basketball as they hosted Springfield College for a NEWMAC matchup. The Springfield Pride took the day with a final score of 64-51. With the win Springfield rises to 8-4 overall and 3-1 in the NEWMAC. The Lions drop to 3-8 overall and 1-4 in conference play.



Early in the first quarter Springfield jumped out to an early lead thanks to efforts from Emily Gins and Danielle Racette. Freshman Charlie Boyle was the first Lion to put points on the board. The first quarter ended with two free throws by Springfield's Ava Adamopoulos to set the score at 15-9.


The second quarter saw the Pride extend their lead as the Lions were only able to put up another 8 points. Both teams entered the locker room with a halftime score of 30-17.


In the second half both teams traded points, but Springfield was able to maintain their lead with the third quarter ending 41-33.


In the final quarter Emerson never gave up, but the Pride's' lead proved too much as with a final score of 64-51.


Stat leaders for Springfield include Lexi Windwer with 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals. Right behind her was Gins, Adamopoulos, and Heather Lewis with 11 points each. Heather King lead the pride in rebounds with 11 total, she also had 2 blocked shots.


Leading for the Lions was Sierra Ducey with 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocked shots. Close behind was Kelsey Johnson with 10 points, 3 rebounds, and a solo blocked shot.


Next up for the Pride is a home game against Babson on January 12th at 7:00pm. The Lions return to action on Tuesday the 12th as well, when they travel to Smith for a 7:00pm tip off.
